Yesterday I had this song stuck in my head all day. Don't ask me why or how. Then today I learn that Cyd Charisse has died. |

Killing Joke will be playing LA in October with their original lineup. Tour is focused on material from the Youth eras — pre-1982, plus Pandemonium. Interesting. |

| know anybody looking for CDJ-1000's? |
[Nov. 26th, 2007|01:23 am] |
I have two Pioneer CDJ-1000 CD decks — not the mk2 or the mk3 but the original model. I no longer need them, but I do need the table space they're consuming.
They're in reasonably good shape — minor scuffs and scratches from being transported to many gigs but nothing on them is missing or broken. I don't seem to have the manuals for them anymore (odd, since I seem to have manuals for all the Pioneer equipment I don't own anymore) and I got rid of the boxes ages ago. For what it's worth, they each have a 16M flash cards installed so they can remember cue points for like 10,000 CDs or something.
For a year or so they were used every week at Death Guild downstrairs. David reported to me that one of them (not sure which) was sometimes finicky about reading burns. I haven't witnessed this myself but it's possible that they'll need their tracking adjusted sometime soon. I don't think that's too expensive.
In March, 2002 I paid the princely sum of $2085 for the two of them. It seems that used they're going in the range of $400-$500 each. I don't want to go too much lower than $400 on them, but can take a bit off for someone buying both. |

| Formula for running Juniper "Network Connect 5.5.0" VPN under OS X Leopard |
[Nov. 5th, 2007|02:11 am] |
Upgrading from Tiger to Leopard broke my VPN client. A friend sent me a fix which involved moving around system libraries in /usr/lib — it seems that the only problem is that it assumes that it will bind with OpenSSL 0.9.7 when it asks for 0.9 and that's no longer a safe assumption.
This was welcome information, but I certainly didn't feel like changing things in /usr/lib. Who knows what else would break? I really want to change this library association for just this one app. ( Here's how you do that... ) |

| initial Leopard impressions |
[Oct. 26th, 2007|05:44 pm] |
- Update of the UNIX utilities is very welcome. I was being driven crazy by the buggy vi-mode in bash 2.05 that came with Tiger. I can't wait to try out the new Ruby hotness
- It seems SSHkeychain-like support is now built into the default ssh implementation. Very nice.
- The X11.app upgrade nuked my "Applications>>Customize" menu. Worse, setting them back didn't work, either. Looking at the log it seems the problem is that it no longer parses command lines. For example if you ask for "xterm -rv" it'll try running a program called "xterm<space>-rv", not a program called "xterm" with an argument of "-rv". Easy to work around by writing some 1-line shell scripts, but kind of a lame bug.
- I'm getting occasional audio glitches in random places (system alert sounds, flash widgets). Sounds like digital distortion. Haven't heard it in anything QuickTime-based yet.
- Some of the new eye candy that looked really gaudy in screenshots (3-D dock, finder coverflow, ...) actually looks decent in real life. I'm still not feeling the translucent menubar, though.

| upcoming gigs |
[Oct. 5th, 2007|07:26 pm] |
I'm doing a few one-off gigs this month. Hopefully I'm not too out of practice.- Tonight: There will be a last-minute Friday installment at Drunken Monkey Lounge. I guess I'll be DJing for a bit, not sure when. No idea what I'll even be spinning, all depends what I end up burning before I walk over to Cat Club.
- Wednesday, October 17th: I'll be in the back room at Fractured @DNA Lounge
- Saturday, October 27th: Pop Roxx @DNA Lounge
